Presidents Newsletter October 2023 09 October 2023

Greetings all SNFC members,
So here we go with communication number five. Well, the 2023 race programme has now been concluded and I would like to take this early opportunity to offer my congratulations to the management committee, and the members who gave up their valuable time to ensure the marking stations were run in a manner that allowed us to have successful channel racing with no issues arising with the authorities either at the home end or across the channel in France. A special thank you to our secretary Donna for a very good first year performance in her role, making sure everything was in place for the racing to take place, and for the timely issue of the race results. She has been ably assisted with her partner Scott, and great assistance with channel races by our channel race team namely our SVP Michael Currie and his daughter Julie. Also, big thanks to our PRO, for getting us good exposure with front pages in the HW weekly. Well done Mary Thomson.
A big well done to the race control team who again have given us tough, but successful racing and all of the 2023 races had increased entries. I feel that when all the prizes in each of the Sections are won, it’s got to be considered as reasonable success. So hopefully this is a step in the right direction and will continue in the years to come.
I am pleased to report the excellent success of the SNFC LATE BRED sale held in Newmains, not only for the success of the cash amount we accrued, but also the sheer quality of late bred pigeons offered to the fancier by the 2023 SNFC winning members. These are the best that Scotland can offer, so a big thank you to all our donors for their fantastic support of our great club.
As I said previously, the racing is at an end, but the work goes on. Donna is busy preparing for the Annual Presentation to be held in the Glynhill Hotel Paisley. It’s always a good night, and we are looking forward to seeing the 2023 winners being presented with their hard won trophies. Remember these winners have set the bar for 2024, with some outstanding performances this year.
We will also hold our Annual Seminar at the end of this month, whereby, we will hopefully as a committee come up with recommendations to present the AGM, that will continue to move us further forward, including the possible return to a 600 mile race into central Scotland.
This will probably be the last communication before the January AGM, so I would urge you to try and attend. That’s the place to express your opinion, and make sure, we the committee are kept on the straight and narrow. I hope these communication letters are of some interest and help keep the members at least a little bit informed of where we are heading and what is going on.
John Leggate
